Orangery Flowers is now closed

It is very sad but true that we have had to close Orangery Flowers now. I have had an increasing problem with my hands where I have lost the feeling. I had my first operation last November, but when I returned to doing flowers this year the familar tingle started to return. We had to make the decision though that while I am not doing flowers my hands are fine, so with deep regret we have now closed Orangery Flowers.

We have started a new business though, Wedding Workshop, which can be found at www.wedding-workshop.co.uk and is an exciting new wedding supply business for all your wedding needs. We specialise in craft and handmade products and have awonderful ranges of ribbons, stationery makes (coming soon) and other items available.

January 2011 Newmarket Wedding Show

Although absolutely shatterd today we had a wonderul time at the wedding show. Thanks goes to all the visitor adn exhibitors who make it such a fantastic day. I took a few shots of our flowers on the day but also forgot some of them. I will also take some photos of our new range of non flower bouquets.

Colours of the year

There have been 3 main colours used with bridemaids and weddings this year. The first is purple. We have seen loads of purple flowers this year in weddings with a mixture of soft country styles to much more bold and modern.

The second colour is Teal. It is not an easy colour to match as there are no teal flowers, but with the use of beads and ribbons we have worked schemes around. You can also use things like Peacock Feathers to add to the effect.

Chocolate Brown has to the last colour. This was always a favourite of my Mums and I could never understand why. She had seen a wedding int he 70's with the colour scheme, but it is lovely with the cream and can stand out so well. Again no flowers in the colour, but lovely to tone with berries and ribbons etc.

Do all Bouquets have to be flowers

I have been thinking ahead to the next wedding show at Newmarket and how we are going to do our stand etc. Unfortunately I need to go and have an operation on my hand over the winter and so this will certainly impact on the bouquets and arrangements I can do for the wedding show. With this in mind I have started making bouquets which do not require fresh flowers. It has been interesting to see this unfold and you can see the results at the nest wedding show on Janaury the 23rd at the racecourse.

Favourite Bouquets of the Year

At times I am always asked as a florist which bouquets I have enjoyed making and why. Here are some of my favourites from the year. This Avalanche rose and rosemary is very simple, but I love it for its soft colouring with blends with the chocolate of the ribboning.

 

Although these are 2 very similar bouquets they both show by how changing the odd colour of one flower how the overall look can be completely altered. Here the veronica has changed from Purple to white, but it still features the coolwater roses and the freesia.

 This is my favourite spring bouquet this year. It has a heavenly smell with the small daffodils and the contrast of colours is very vibrant.

You can't get more a contrast than that of black and white, but this bouquet shows how you can also gain texture by mixing flowers. Here we have used Avlacnhe roses, ranunculas and also freesia with parviflorum eucalyptus.

Ely Standard Awards

We are the proud winners of the Ely Standard Judges Special Award at the Business Awards for 2010 and also finalists in the Small Business of the year category. Girton Spring Ball- Absurdism

 We were very pleased to be chosen as the florist for the Girton Spring Ball entitled Absurdism. The comittee were very kind to let us use a bit of imagination to create the table centres for the main hall where the dinner was being served. The final theme was based around 3 colours. The rather vivid combination of Orange, Bright Pink and Green. The 17 table centres we arranged were all birds. The 'Absurd Birds' as they got known were all individual with different poses and positions. Some where upright while others feeding and even a flying bird. Photos to follow.

Rebecca's Wedding

We are in busy preps for Rebeccas wedding this Saturday. She is having a spring theme with white tulips and blue iris. More to follow with photos...

The Newmarket Wedding Show Jan 2010

We had a wonderful day at the show, with so many visitors coming to see everyone. I really enjoyed making our Orangery rainbow, but as is always typical at the shows forgot to take photos !

The next show is on Sunday 5th September at Newmarket Racecourses, which we are all looking forward to.

Rachel and Rods Winter Wedding

Saturday the 19th December saw the first of our winter snows for 2009. With this in mind we made arrangements to take some of the wedding flowers to Sidney Sussex college on the Friday morning in preparation. For this we took the pedestals for the chapel and the vases ready to be put on the table.

Rachel had also asked us to make 95 fudge favours for the wedding which we also delivered on the Friday.

With dual use of the chapel flowers for the table centres it was more important than ever to make sure everything looked perfect. The chapel was decorated with 32 posies of red roses and gold sea holly, to give a Christmas feel.

Rachels bouquet was a mixture of red naomi roses and hypericum berries with foled aspidistra leaves.

The colours really complemented the snow outside which I am sure made the photos even more magical.

The Newmarket Wedding Show

The Newmarket Wedding Show took place on the 6th September and we had such a great time yet again with so many friendly faces from friends and collegues to meet up again with. I had fun creating the stand again with the centrepiece for me of the peacock. The whole stand was themed on the duel colour, but a selection of the same types of arrangements and showed what could be done by just using different flowers.
